I think it would be a great asset to our neighborhood to get some signs or markers up at different entrances to the neighborhood letting people know that they are in "The Racquet Club Road Estates". The historical importance of our tract, as the largest concentration of Alexander Palmer and Krisel homes in Palm Springs, is under appreciated and signage would be a step in establishing it's signifigance in the communities conciousnesss. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this going? Should we take up a collection? Approach City Hall?

This is a great idea. How do we accomplish it?

Great idea--whom to we talk to at the city about doing this? While we're at it, we should apply to make RCE an historic preservation overly district (an opt-in plan) that could significantly increase our property values & protect the nieghborhood's unique heritage.

I am all for designating RCRE as an historic area but has anyone considered first perhaps organizing into a neighborhood through the city's Office of Neighborhood Involvement? It is just an idea. How about perhaps first organizing a RCRE social get-together, which in itself would be historic? I will help to get such an event underway, anyone care to join me?

Can you tell me if the long beams in my 12000 sq ft Butterfly roof home are solid or notched to receive the crossbeam? I see metal fittings around the intercection of the cross beams and wonder which ones are solid. Is there a floor plan or architectural plans that I can access?
I love my home. It is a study in modernist simplicity, reflecting the modesty of the time, contrasting to the overwrought direction of today's developments.

maybe we should try to do some kind of social event in the new year, when most folks are around? Cocktail party/discussion? Spread the word to the neighbours and let's see what happens? RO

Ron, Great idea, what can we do to make this happen? I proposed it earlier and William Krisel said that he'd like to come.

I have been been doing some work getting city approval for a neighborhood entry sign for the SUNMOR neighborhood (also mostly Alexanders). There is much going on in that regard and I'd be happy to share it with your group.

I encourage your group to work with the city to add historic district designation to your historic preservation ordinance (if not already included) and then work on utilizing the normal 51% ownership approval (of all homeowners in the proposed district) to establish a historic district for your area. This is the best way to control future development - bad remodels, remuddling, infrastructure impacts- ie cell tower - on historic resources etc. I for one would be much more influenced to buy there if such guidelines/protections were in place. It would only positively affect property and resale values. You could also make contributing properties in the district eligible for the Mills Act (state Tax break measure for historic properties - think your city already participates) - perhaps a limit of so many per year - to encourage preservation and restoration. You could also have awards for these activities etc. Encourage you to devote a topic on your blogs devoted to this objective.

Best of luck - will try to attend your tour in Feb. - Richard
